Join us for this wonderful holiday of music and fun to see out the old year and welcome in 2027! Celebrate the arrival of the New Year with a charming break in the heart of the Peak District, a region known for its natural beauty and rich history. This bespoke holiday, designed exclusively for Cultural Breaks Members, offers a balanced mix of scenic touring, historical exploration, and a live concert on New Year’s Eve. Enjoy door-to-door service, the support of a dedicated Tour Manager, and a welcoming stay at Champneys Buxton Crescent Hotel & Wellness Spa. Buxton, a spa town with Roman origins, known for its thermal springs, Georgian architecture, and landmarks such as the Pump Room and Pavilion Gardens is situated at the gateway of the Peak District and provides easy access to Britain’s first national park, established in 1951. The area is rich in history, with numerous prehistoric sites like Arbor Low, Roman roads, medieval packhorse routes, and ancient lead mines reflecting thousands of years of fascinating history.

The Buxton Opera House in Derbyshire is a beautifully restored Edwardian gem and one of the finest surviving examples of Frank Matcham’s theatre design. With around 450 performances each year, the Opera House offers a vibrant mix of opera, drama, comedy, music, and hosts major events such as the Buxton Festival and the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival - attended by Cultural Breaks this year! On New Year’s Eve, our group will enjoy dinner at our hotel, followed by the New Year’s Eve Gala Concert at the Opera House, featuring the British Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and soloists performing a lively mix of classical and popular favourites. With a varied itinerary and festive entertainment, this is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the New Year in the company of like-minded travellers, all at a gentle pace designed with your comfort in mind.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Tuesday 29th December 2026

Arriving by door-to-door car at The Crowne Plaza Gerrards Cross, you will be greeted by your Tour Manager who will be with you throughout the holiday. Tea/coffee and cake will be served upon arrival and your Tour Manager will assist with your luggage on to the coach. We will be stopping for lunch on the way in Warwick at The Saxon Mill before continuing our journey to Champneys Buxton Crescent Hotel & Wellness Spa. Upon arrival your Tour Manager will assist with check-in, there after allowing time to settle in and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. A three-course evening meal will be served, along with 2 small glasses of wine/beer or soft drinks, followed by tea and coffee for the duration of the trip.

Day 2 – Wednesday 30th December 2026

After breakfast we will be meeting with our Blue Badge Guide, a specialist on the area. She will lead us on an insightful full day White Peak Tour, via Longnor and Hartington and then on to Bakewell. Bakewell is a historic market town known since medieval times for its bustling markets and well-preserved period architecture. Legend has it that the town's famous Bakewell Pudding was created by mistake by a local cook in the mid-19th century. Today her delectable 'jam tart that went wrong' can be sampled at various bakeries and cafés within the village. Here we will have some time at leisure for shopping and lunch at your own cost before departing for the village of Eyam, after which we will be returning to Buxton via Ashford in the Water. Alternatively you may choose to stay at the hotel and explore the local area at your own pace.

Day 3 – Thursday 31st December 2026

Today we will be in the company of our Blue Badge Guide for a half day Dark Peak Tour, which will include Glossop and the Ladybower Dam & Reservoir. We will stop In Castleton for lunch (at your own cost), where you will find a choice of numerous cafés, tea rooms and pubs to suit your personal preferences. Once we return to the hotel there will be time to relax, alternatively there are many independent shops to stroll around, such as Cavendish Arcade, a boutique shopping hall within the former Victorian thermal baths. We will reconvene as a group ready for our evening meal at the hotel, followed by the New Year's Eve Gala at the Buxton Opera House, just a few minutes stroll from the hotel. There will be music to suit everyone's tastes, including opera, ballet, musicals, film music, singalongs, and fun numbers. A host of international singers join the orchestra to make this a truly memorable way to bring in the New Year with the traditional holding of hands and Auld Lang Syne at midnight.

Day 4 – Friday 1st January 2027

Happy New Year!! After a leisurely breakfast, your Tour Manger will assist with check-out. We will commence our journey home and stop en-route for our 2-course farewell lunch. Once we arrive back at The Crowne Plaza Gerrards Cross, we will be welcomed with tea/coffee and cake, whilst your door to door cars will be waiting for your return journey home.
