Located in the Irish Sea between England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales the Isle of Man is an Island that is on many a ‘bucket list’ to visit. The Isle of Man is a self-governing British Crown Dependency, and although closely linked to the United Kingdom, it is not part of it and has its own Parliament, known as Tynwald, which is considered to be one of the

oldest continuous parliamentary institutions in the world. Although the island is situated closely to the UK, it gives a feeling of being much further afield due to its own distinctive culture, currency and native Manx language. Manx currency is not legal tender in the UK, but the island’s government decided to accept British currency.

The island is famous for its stunning natural landscapes, including rugged coastlines, rolling hills and picturesque villages that attract visitors throughout the year. Snaefell is the only mountain and also the highest point on the island standing 2,000 feet above sea level with breath-taking views.
Douglas, the capital of the island, is where our hotel is situated.

Douglas has a beautiful seafront, lined with attractive hotels and restaurants. Along the promenade you will see an example of the rich transport heritage the island holds; the horse-drawn trams dating back to 1876 are still being used today as everyday transport. The Isle of Man’s most adrenalin-filled activity is the famous TT Races which take place annually in late May and early June and also contributes to the island’s history dating back over 100 years.

During our stay we will enjoy many of the 'must see' attractions on the island, where we will discover the rich Viking and Celtic heritage. The Laxey Wheel and Castle Rushen give the Isle of Man a distinctive character that you do not find elsewhere in the British Isles. One of the island's biggest strengths is said to be the atmosphere; relaxed, safe and

independent.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Tuesday 8th September

You will be collected by your door-to-door car and taken to Heathrow Airport where you will be met by your Tour Managers at the meet point location. After using the fast-track service through security, there will be time to purchase refreshments, at your own cost, before boarding the flight to Isle of Man (food is subject to availability on the plane). Upon landing and disembarking, we will collect our luggage and meet with the coach for the transfer to the Mannin Hotel. On arrival at the hotel, your Tour Managers will assist with check-in, including porterage for your luggage. You will have time to unpack and settle in before meeting the group for a 3-course group dinner in the hotel restaurant.

Day 2- Wednesday 9th September

Today we will be escorted by knowledgeable tour guide Jane Hodson. Jane’s ethos is to create a memorable experience for the groups whilst sharing her knowledge of the island’s landscape, history and folklore. We will depart Douglas and head to Knockaloe Visitor Centre which tells the story of Knockaloe Internment Camp on Isle of Man. We will then take the short trip to the House of Mannan for an atmospheric and immersive journey through two thousand years of life on the Isle of Man. Following lunch nearby, our day will continue as we make our way to Laxey for a visit to the island’s most iconic landmark Lady Isabella (Laxey Wheel), the largest working waterwheel in the world!

Day 3 – Thursday 10th September

Our day today will be spent in the south of the island to take in the historic delightsCastletown has to offer. We will begin close by the hotel at the Manx Museum, a tardis of time, displaying some of the finest Viking treasures in the British Isles. We will then make our way to the medieval ruins and gardens of Rushen Abbey, where we will have a guided tour. Lunch will be nearby at the beautiful Abbey Restaurant, before we continue to Castletown to visit some of the attractions this town has to offer. The Old House of Keys which was the former home of the Manx Parliament, is where we will take our seat in the chamber, and hear the debates and have your say by voting on the topic of the day. This town is also home to the famous Castle Rushen which holds many stories of the Lords of Mann who once lived there as well as the fascinating history of the market town.

Day 4 – Friday 11th September

After breakfast, we will board the coach for the southwest to Cregneash Living Village. Nestled in the beautiful countryside this village was one of the last strongholds of the Manx language and customs which formed the crofting way of life. There are plenty of thatched cottages to explore and see the history being lived out. The fields are still worked with horse-drawn equipment and craftsmen still carry out traditional methods of thatching, spinning, weaving, wood-turning and cooking. We may even be lucky enough to see a Manx cat, famous for having no tail! We will depart the south of the island and head north to the Milntown House and Gardens, the only country house on the Isle of Man open to the public. We will enjoy lunch in the café, before a guided house tour. There will then be time to enjoy, at leisure, the vast gardens, the vehicle collection featuring motorcycles and cars, and The Mill.

Day 5 – Saturday 12th September

We will begin our day with a relaxed breakfast at the hotel before the Tour Managers assist you with check-out. The coach will then transfer us to Isle of Man Airport to complete check-in. You may purchase food, at your own expense, before boarding the flight to Heathrow Airport. After landing, the Tour Managers will assist you with collecting your luggage, before being met by your door-to-door car, which will transfer you home.
