Luxembourg
5 day holiday - Tuesday 11th August 2026
Highlights...
- Valley of the Seven Castles
- Moselle River Cruise
- Echternach Tour
Imagine a country full of fairy-tale castles, striking forests and vineyard-lined rivers... We are delighted to present our holiday to Luxembourg, a nation with one of the highest standards of living in the world, and a wonderfully rewarding country to explore. Tucked between France, Germany and Belgium, this small, landlocked country is just 51 miles long, 36 miles wide and just over 1hr from London City Airport. Luxembourg is rapidly emerging as a top European travel destination, consistently ranked among the safest countries in the world. It made history as the first country to introduce free public transport nationwide, making getting around refreshingly straightforward.
Luxembourg is a constitutional monarchy with a monarch whose powers are limited by law. Its high-income economy ranks among the highest in the world for GDP per capita, and the country is a major financial centre focused on banking and services. The capital is the centrepiece, built around a dramatic ravine where pastel houses, medieval towers and elegant bridges cling to sandstone cliffs. Beyond the city, gentle river valleys, quaint villages and castles stand on beautiful hilltops, making it a unique destination for Cultural Breaks Members to experience.
Your stay is carefully paced to reveal the best of the Grand Duchy. From a gentle introduction to Luxembourg City aboard the charming City Train, to a scenic journey through the Moselle Valley on a river cruise. A guided tour through the Valley of the Seven Castles traces a thousand years of history through rolling countryside, while a day in Echternach and the Mullerthal region showcases medieval towns and extraordinary natural landscapes. With comfortable coach travel, expert local guides and free time built into every day, this itinerary offers a great balance of relaxing and exploring as a group. Itinerary
Day 1 – Tuesday 11th August
Your door-to-door car will take you to London City Airport, where you will meet your Tour Managers and fellow members of the group. After passing through security, there will be time to purchase refreshments at your own cost before boarding the flight to Luxembourg (food is subject to availability on the plane). On arrival, we will collect our luggage and meet with the coach. We will have lunch, and you will be transferred to the mini-train for a short welcome tour of the city. Enjoy panoramic views of the Old Town, while audio guides provide insights about local history. Later, the coach transfers us to our hotel, where your Tour Managers will assist with check-in, including porterage for your luggage. The day concludes with a 3-course group dinner in the hotel restaurant.
Day 2 – Wednesday 12th August
After breakfast at the hotel, we travel by coach to the scenic Moselle wine village of Schengen, which became famous 30 years ago as a symbol of open borders in Europe. Our guided outdoor tour ‘Spirit of Schengen’ explores key landmarks, including the Monument of the Schengen Agreement, Columns of Nations, Berlin Wall, Flags of the Schengen Area, and the historic boat ‘Prinzessin Marie-Astrid Europa’. We then continue on to Remich for a cruise along the Moselle River. As we sail past vineyards, castles, and locks, a light lunch is served onboard. Back on land, we visit the Caves St. Martin winery, where you will tour the underground cellars (a jacket is recommended) and learn how sparkling wines and crémants are produced. We later return to the hotel for our evening meal.
Day 3 – Thursday 13th August
Embark on an enchanting journey through the Valley of the Seven Castles, a picturesque guided coach tour through Guttland, one of Luxembourg’s regions with the densest concentration of medieval architecture. Over 25 kilometres, the route links seven historic manors, including the 13th-century keep of Castle Schoenfels with its English gardens, the 11th-century Castle Hollenfels, and the 17th-century Manor Ansembourg. Some castles, such as Old Castle Ansembourg and Castle Septfontaines, are privately owned and cannot be entered, but strategically placed lookouts offer clear views. The tour ends back at the hotel for a light lunch followed by leisure time, or a short walk with our Tour Managers to the MUDAM, for a free-flow browse of the modern art before dinner.
Day 4 – Friday 14th August
Discover Echternach, the ‘capital’ of the Mullerthal Region, known as Luxembourg’s ‘Little Switzerland’. On arrival, we meet our local guide for a gently-paced 1hr walking tour with rest stops through this historic abbey town. Explore labyrinthine streets, remnants and towers of the ancient city wall, the marketplace with its Gothic town house, the Basilica with crypt, the exterior of the Benedictine Abbey, the Dënzelt, the Cross of Justice, and the Trifolion. Following the tour, we continue by coach through the scenic Mullerthal Region, with our journey highlighting the unique landscapes for which the region is famous. A light lunch is included in the Mullerthal area before the tour concludes in Echternach, where the coach then transfers us back to the hotel for leisure time before dinner.
Day 5 - Saturday 15th August
For your convenience, we begin the day with breakfast at the hotel before the Tour Managers assist you with check-out. The coach will then transfer us to Luxembourg Airport to complete check-in and use the fast-track service for a smoother transfer through security. You may purchase food at your own expense before boarding the flight to London City Airport. After landing, the Tour Managers will assist you with collecting your luggage, before meeting your door-to-door car, which will transfer you home. We hope you enjoy exploring Luxembourg!
