Immerse yourself in some of Bath’s remarkable museums and enjoy a very special midwinters celebration of the music of JS Bach. The first Bath Bach Fest took place in 2012 and it is now firmly established as a mini music festival celebrating the work of Johann Sebastian Bach and his contemporaries. Held each February in Bath’s stunning period venues, it attracts fine musicians and audiences from across the UK and well beyond. Bach, alongside his friend Handel and Italian contemporary, Vivaldi, made the Baroque period of the 17th and early 18th century an extraordinarily fertile musical period, whose legacy continues to enthral and captivate today.

Bath, one of the world’s most beautiful cities, sits in a sheltered valley surrounded by stunning scenery. It has been designated as a World Heritage Site, with its rich Roman and Georgian history. An elegant city full of traditional architecture, contemporary culture, green spaces and a few surprises. Built for pleasure and relaxation, Bath has been a wellbeing destination since Roman times. The waters are still a big draw today, both at the ancient Roman Baths and the thoroughly modern Thermae Bath Spa, which houses the only natural thermal hot springs in Britain which you can bathe in.

Bath's stunning, honey-coloured Georgian architecture is straight from a Jane Austen novel; highlights include the iconic Royal Crescent and the majestic Circus. There are still ‘period’ lamp-posts, streets paved with stones and, due to its heritage listing, restrictions on owners to prevent modernisation of their buildings, windows and doors.

During our visit, we will get to explore some of the very best places of interest with the benefit of them being situated a short walk from one another within a small area of the town. An experienced local guide will lead us on an enlightening and entertaining tour, at a leisurely pace, to discover some of the landmarks and rich history in the nearby villages of Lacock and Castle Combe.

Arriving by door-to-door car at the Crowne Plaza, Gerrards Cross, you will be greeted by your tour manager who will be with you throughout the holiday. Coffee or tea with pastries will be served before we board the coach. A light lunch will be served at The Crown Inn Tolldown before we continue to Bailbrook House Hotel where we can relax, settle in and enjoy our beautiful surroundings.

Day 2 – Friday 20th February

After breakfast we will depart for the Roman Baths where we will have a self-guided tour of the Baths and museum, with 2,000 years of history that are waiting for you to discover and explore. This will be followed by afternoon tea at the attached Pump Room restaurant with views of the Roman Baths. The afternoon will be at leisure at the hotel and we will be having an early dinner in order to depart for the first of our Bach Fest performances. This will take place at the beautiful St Mary’s Bathwick, where the foundation stone was laid on 1st September 1814, and will showcase music from Bach, Handel and Vivaldi. During the interval drinks are available to purchase at your own cost.

Day 3 – Saturday 21st February

Today we will begin by taking the short drive to No1 Royal Crescent where we will be treated to the quintessential Bath experience and self- guided tour. Its position as the first house on the iconic Royal Crescent provides both interest for architecture and history enthusiasts alike. We will then board the coach for a very short journey to the Grade 1 listed Guildhall. The earliest mention of Bath Guildhall was in 1359, where it was used as the meeting place for powerful trade guilds, this will be the fabulous venue for our second Festival Ensemble featuring Bach. Once the performance has concluded, lunch will be taken at the delightful Abbey’s Deli which featured in the Bridgerton TV series as the Modistes shop.

Day 4 – Sunday 22nd February

This morning, our qualified Blue Badge Guide, Fred Mawer, will join us for a gentle and insightful walking tour of popular spots in the centre of Bath, starting at the Royal Crescent and finishing at the Roman Baths. We will then board the coach to visit Lacock, a village which dates from the 13th-century and is almost completely owned by the NationalTrust. Lacock Abbey was founded in 1232 and was later converted into a country house. The monastic rooms of the Abbey have survived largely intact along with the fine medieval cloisters which was used as Hogwarts in Harry Potter. There is also a Victorian woodland garden. We will enjoy lunch in Lacock before spending some time in nearby Castle Combe, a village often called the prettiest village in England.

Day 5 – Monday 23rd February

Today is departure day. We will have a leisurely breakfast at the hotel and your Tour Manager will assist you with check-out. The coach will depart for Holburne Museum which stars in the Bridgerton series as the exterior of Lady Danbury’stownhouse. Itwas once a magnificent family home but now houses an impressive art collection, built around the collection of Sir William Holburne. Artists in the collection include Gainsborough, Guardi, Stubbs, Ramsay and Zoffany. Our two-course farewell lunch will be at Chiseldon House, an award-winning country house hotel set in the stunning Marlborough Downs. We will then board the coach for the last time for our journey back to The Crown Plaza Gerrards Cross. Tea, coffee and cake will be awaiting our return before meeting our chauffeur driven cars. This certainly will be a trip to remember!
