North Norfolk Treasures

5 day holiday – Sunday 28th September 2025

Highlights...

Sandringham House and Gardens

Holkham Hall
Norfolk Broads luxury sightseeing cruise

North Norfolk has a coastline that stretches 45 miles and is home to a unique coastline with beautiful, unspoilt beaches. There are lots of places to be explored as the coastline wraps around miles of stunning countryside and inland waterways which are a real feast for the eyes! Norfolk is also known for the man-made Broads, which are set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and are a calm tranquil 125 miles of lock free waterways winding through the countryside. The setting is a haven for wildlife; home to over a quarter of the rarest plants and animals in the UK. Within these glorious surroundings, along with charming seaside towns and picturesque villages, are many stately homes and places of historical and cultural interest. The top of the list of stately homes has to be Sandringham, the much-loved country-retreat of the British Royal Family.

During our 5-day break we spend a day at Sandringham and have visits to three other very different stately homes; Blickling Hall - a delightful, lavishly decorated 17th- century Jacobean house surrounded by superb ornamental gardens, Holkham Hall - a Palladian style stately home with ornate interiors set on the edge of a lake in parkland with deer, and Oxburgh Hall - a moated medieval manor house with Victorian Gothic interiors.

During our break we will get to enjoy the Norfolk Broads the best way; from a luxury river cruiser. The Southern Comfort is a double-deck paddle boat, purpose built for the Broads. It has level boarding, flat access into the plush lounge with all-around windows and a fully stocked bar. Toilets are on the same level. Only the upper viewing deck has steps. We will spend a pleasant afternoon cruising the Broads on this delightful riverboat. We will also enjoy a day with Blue Badge Guide, Scilla Landale, who guides in King’s Lynn, but specialises in the fascinating village of Walsingham. A scenic tour will take us to Hunstanton on the coast for a short walk down the Promenade to look at the cliffs, the sea and the Esplanade Gardens, before continuing on to Holkham Hall for a visit and lunch. Our afternoon will be spent discovering the rich history of Walsingham, a Place of Pilgrimage since 1061, on a guided walking tour with Scilla sharing her incredible knowledge of the village.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Sunday 28th September

Arriving by door-to-door car at the Bull Hotel you will be greeted by your tour manager who will be with you throughout the holiday. Coffee or tea with pastries will be served before boarding the coach. We will stop at the Marriott Huntingdon, where we have a light, buffet lunch and time to stretch our legs. Afterwards, we continue to Knights Hill Hotel, arriving in plenty of time to unpack, settle in and relax in the bar with friends before dinner.

Day 2 – Monday 29th September

Our first full day will be spent with the knowledgeable Blue Badge Guide, Scilla Landale. She will lead us on a scenic tour with commentary. Our first stop will be the seaside town of Hunstanton, where we will have the opportunity to take a stroll down the promenade to look at the cliffs and sea. We will then continue on to Holkham Hall, where Scilla will be on hand to answer any questions during our self-led tour. Holkham Hall, the lived-in family home of the Earls of Leicester, is set in lakeside parkland. Its state rooms offer superb collections of statuary, original furniture, tapestries and painting by Rubens, Van Dyck, Gaspar Poussin and Gainsborough. After lunch at Holkham, we will continue on to the village of Walsingham for a slow-paced walking tour, while Scilla shares her specialist knowledge and gives us an insight into the captivating history of one of the most famous, but almost undiscovered villages, in England.

Day 3 – Tuesday 30th September

Today we will visit the impressive 17th century Jacobean mansion, Blickling Hall, which sits in 5,000 acres of parkland. The breath-taking, red brick mansion with its painted ceilings and beautiful gardens has a story that unfolds over thousands of years. We have an introductory talk, before a stroll in the gardens and a free-flow tour of the house which has a lift to the upper floor and helpful room guides throughout. Afterwards, we will have lunch in the beautiful village of Horning and then board the Southern Comfort for a cruise along the River Bure with full commentary. It will pass through villages to Ranworth Broad and back, and all we have to do is sit back, relax and enjoy!

Day 4 – Wednesday 1st October

After breakfast today, we will drive to nearby Sandringham. We will be greeted on the coach by a Visitor Host who will accompany us to the Courtyard. Our tour starts in Sandringham House, which is self-led and can be explored at our own pace (there are knowledgeable room stewards on hand for any questions). Within the grounds there is seating and also cafes to relax in as you wish. Our visit includes time to enjoy the gardens, a light lunch in Sandringham Restaurant and a visit and seated talk to St Mary Magdalene Church, which is regularly used as a place of worship by the Royal Family.

Day 5 – Thursday 2nd October

After breakfast, we depart on our homeward journey. We stop at Oxburgh Hall, an imposing moated manor filled with portraits, treasured objects and fascinating documents. It has been the family home of the Bedingfelds for over 500 years and they are still in residence. Here we will have a free flow visit to enjoy the delights at our own pace. We will then drive to the Marriott, Huntingdon for our two-course, buffet Farewell Lunch. We then continue to the Bull Hotel, where refreshments will be served before our door-to-door cars arrive.
