Looking for a UK getaway that blends fascinating history with tickets to the theatre? Join us this November for our ‘Liverpool & Port Sunlight’ holiday! This unique city break takes you to the heart of Merseyside, with a bespoke itinerary of excursions for Cultural Breaks Members to enjoy alongside like-minded travellers. Liverpool’s story is as captivating as its waterfront. The Royal Albert Dock, now a lively hub of galleries, restaurants, and museums, was a feat of innovation when built, using cast iron, brick, and stone to reduce fire risks from flammable cargoes. Liverpool grew rapidly during the 18th and 19th centuries, becoming one of the busiest ports in the world, known for its grand Victorian architecture and bustling markets. Its maritime heritage remains visible in landmarks like the Royal Liver Building, guarded by mythical Liver Birds said to watch over the city and sea. Just across the river, Port Sunlight tells a different story: a model village founded in 1888 by industrialist William Lever for his factory workers. Today, its museum and the elegant Lady Lever Art Gallery offer a vivid glimpse into late Victorian and Edwardian life, and feature in our itinerary.
Liverpool is world-renowned for its influence on pop culture, most famously as the birthplace of The Beatles. Their music changed the course of modern pop and rock, and their legacy lives on at The Beatles Story Museum, an immersive journey through the sounds, spirit, and social revolution of the 1960s, located within easy reach of our chosen hotel. Liverpool’s cultural impact extends beyond music. As a UNESCO City of Music, it’s also home to vibrant art scenes, premier league football, and acclaimed theatres. We’re delighted to have one of England’s most fascinating northern cities on our calendar this year - read on to get a feel for our bespoke itinerary.
